Odds and Ends

Our annual field day has become an important event at Dunlop Park and has proved popular with beef producers. It is a joint effort with the MLA "More Beef from Pastures" program and we are extremely grateful to Peter Ball of the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) for his help in organising the field day.

Date

Thursday February 9th, 2012

Theme

There is so much to learn about beef production and each year we like to choose a different theme for the field day. This year our theme is "Profitable Beef Production" with the focus being on what are the key points for making a beef enterprise profitable.

Speakers

We have lined up some interesting speakers for the field day.

They are;

Rod Manning: Dr Rod Manning is a vet from Mansfield in Victoria who also runs a beef enterprise, the Davilak Pastoral Company. He is a cattle consultant with MLA with expertise on a number of beef topics.

Fred Perry: Fred is a beef producer from King Island. On his property "Millwood" he runs a self replacing herd of 750 cows producing Hereford /Angus cross steers.

Peter Ball: Peter will be familiar to many of you, his knowledge of and enthusiasm for the beef industry is enormous. Peter is attached to the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) and runs the MLA "more beef from pastures" program.

Bill Cotching: Dr. Bill Cotching is a TIA dairy centre research fellow.
